Grandpa And Hunting Dogs

By

My grandpa has had hunting dogs all of his life. I have loved them and tried to be friends when each and every one of them.

Grandpa really liked spending time with his hunting dogs. I remember Old Ruby, she was a Beagle Harrier. She was one of the sweetest hunting dogs grandpa ever had.

The hunting dogs had less to do as grandpa got older. He got Daisy and stopped hunting shortly thereafter.

The love of my grandpa for his hunting dogs was clear to anyone that noticed. Each of the hunting dogs that grandpa had over the years knew it was loved. Grandpa always treated his hunting dogs well.

My cousin has hunting dogs on his property. I didn’t actually realize, until he told me, that there are so many different breeds of dogs that are hunting dogs.

My cousin has four hunting dogs and they are all American Water Spaniels. I had to go home and look them up on the internet. The dogs were really very pretty and personable. They just didn’t seem like the hunting dogs that grandpa had always had.

I saw some hunting dogs last fall near my home. They were very unusual. I had never seen Cretan Hounds before and they looked

a little weird with little heads.

I went to a dog show a couple of years ago that reminded me of my grandpa and his hunting dogs. There was an English Foxhound there and it was just so striking with its tri-color coat. I wish that grandpa had been there with me to see it.

I found on a website detailing hunting dogs and their breeds that Labrador Retrievers are used as hunting dogs. I find that hard to believe that these incredibly cuddly dogs chase prey. I personally don’t know anybody that uses Labrador Retrievers for hunting dogs.
